macOS Catalina will switch to Zsh as the default shell, replacing GNU Bash Apple is stuck with ancient Bash 3.2 because it's last version licensed in GPL v2, while newer versions of Bash are under GPL v3 which isn't something Apple is comfortable with support.apple.com/en-us/HT208050
