Have you ever met a single person in your life who wasn't a hypocrite? I'm not talking about people you don't really know. I just don't think I've ever met a single person (myself included) that didn't contradict themselves or act in a hypocritical way at some point.

I feel like it used to be that in an argument or debate, the side that lost control of their emotions first largely lost the argument. If you resorted to attacking someones character, or the fact that they critiqued you at all, it showed you couldn't defend your position.
