And the other half of the hive mind, who deserves an awards ceremony of his own. Thank you for watching made-for-TV '70s horrors and pretending to be interested in the mercantile landscape of early 19th-century New England with me🥂

Pleased to announce that yesterday I submitted my thesis, 'Haunted Harvests: Agriculture and the American Gothic'. Working on this through lockdowns, maternity leave and the early days of motherhood has been a challenge and a privilege. Let the viva prep commence!
Last minute footnoting checks with the research assistant
One of my students is writing her diss on Af-Am mourning & funerary practices during slavery and reconstruction. I'm looking for any readings that might be useful to theorise the practice of claiming/reclaiming space/place in general or through mourning/burying? #twitterstorians
I will never be able to close my eyes to try and think of the best way to write something without feeling like the guidance counsellor from 10 Things I Hate About You when she's writing her erotic novel
Awful and enraging news. I know so many brilliant researchers in Arts and Humanities who were funded by DDS. Really gutted to see my former academic home devaluing Arts and Humanities research in this way. I hope they will reconsider.
Starting in the next academic year, the Durham Doctoral Scheme, a funding scheme for Doctoral students, will only be available for candidates in the Science faculty. palatinate.org.uk/durham-doctora…
It's been amazing to spend time behind the scenes at @SouterNT over the last few weeks, doing my very small bit to help look after the collection there #northeasthistory
'the resurrection of the wheat appears with pale visage out of its graves' ... A lovely walk to take my mind off my thesis about gothic crops...nailed it.
Are you working on or do you know someone working on queer ecologies? I'm hoping to put together an online networking meeting. Any field, any definition of the terms, any specialism.
So looking forward to starting this - massively encouraged by a project organised around case studies of single crops, like my own!
Has anyone had any experience (good and bad) applying for the Wellcome Discovery Award? Can't see any "grants we've funded" entries on the website

Sometimes research takes you down the most fascinating rabbit holes - I loved reading this blog post about the construction of memory in colonial Maine.

SO close to finishing a redraft of my first chapter today, send all the productive vibes! (And coffee. Always send coffee.)
Wish to put on record how horrified I am by the USS decision & send solidarity to colleagues in UK HE. They have made a clear decision about who can be an academic: those w family wealth & security. Good luck finding colleagues for future “Diversity” initiatives, UK unis
Really excited to start Faye Ringel's brand new book this morning!
Love these in theory but in reality my 10 month old would be playing 'reach over onto the desk and eat mummy's jstor printouts' within seconds
A new public library in my area has these work stations for caregivers with babies! Maybe these are common in other places but Ive never seen anything like this before.
