lrt yup thats pretty much how i interpreted the scene, afo was being manipulative but he was also falling into desperation as he was about to lose the only person that ever mattered to him,
oftentimes abuse and manipulation comes with intent like this—looks like this. not some classic Hollywood villain-type demeanor. it can be both. he could genuinely be desperate, losing the only thing that ever mattered to him, and still be a manipulative abuser.
In the manga he seems like a typical abusive ex when you're about to leave him “don't go, I love you, I'm nothing without you” (manipulation) But the anime vibe is completely different, AFO is completely desperate bc he's about to lose the only thing that really mattered to him
