Can we reverse aging? 7 yrs ago, Ocampo et al. showed that partial reprogramming can ameliorate aging hallmarks. But, OSKM induction has safety limitations & no new factors have emerged since. Here, biorxiv.org/content/10.110… we used 🧬 screens to find new rejuvenation factors🧵1/8

Can you rejuvenate an old brain by giving it young immune cells? 🧠 My lab @calico put it to the test. In our new study, we replaced the brain's immune cells in old mice with young ones. The result? The old brain environment forced the young cells to age RAPIDLY. A 🧵👇

In the past thirty years, the number of deaths from cancer has dropped dramatically, resulting in millions of lives saved. Some of this is due to improvements in oncology treatments, including immunotherapy. But most of the effect has little to do with biopharma at all.

Excited to introduce evoCAST: a platform for efficient, programmable gene integration in human cells. This work, product of a close collaboration between @liugroup and @sternberglab, has been such a fun journey to help lead throughout my PhD. Huge thanks to all contributors!

Today in @ScienceMagazine we report the development of a laboratory-evolved CRISPR-associated transposase (evoCAST) that supports therapeutically relevant levels of RNA-programmable gene insertion in human cells, a collaboration with @SternbergLab. 1/13 drive.google.com/file/d/1I-UbCR…

Just posted a piece I've wanted to write for a long time. Maximum Lifespan vs. Healthspan (or - why you cannot diet your way to live to 140), a 🧵 Take a look at these two mice, from the famous Baker et al. 2016 Nature paper:

One of the most important studies for the longevity field was just released last week, and it does not mention aging once. It's about how genome instability is the cause of Huntington's disease. 🧵

We need to think about cancer prevention as a strategy for longevity. Over the past century, there have been hundreds of aging theories. Almost all of them, from information theory to telomeres to programmed aging, share damage to the genome as a central driver.

Two big papers came out recently filling out some big knowledge gaps in genome instability. The first beautifully ties together R-loops with Cockayne syndrome, TC-NER, and transcript length. Why is that a big deal? nature.com/articles/s4146…
