It is impossible to miss the fact that the AI backlash grows stronger every day. As teenagers die, young people find it harder to find jobs, creatives lose work & royalties, slop fills the airwaves, students cheat, we lose the ability to tell what's real, execs cut headcount,…
AI is none of those things. It’s billionaire controlled tools strip-mining human culture to replace it with a bland mass-produced slurry. The establishment loves it and is investing in it. And its ideology is pure machine worship. AI isn’t punk, or hip hop or counterculture.
AI filmmaking and storytelling is punk rock. It’s hip hop. It’s counterculture. It’s a new type of creativity. It’s a new medium. It’s hated by the mainstream film and art establishment. It resists ideology. It ignores gate keeping. It’s uncomfortable. It’s scary. It’s viral.…
Here’s the VP of Google Labs providing yet more evidence that tech giants are pushing tech that is trained off the work of artists—without artists consent— to then harm the same markets of the artists they so gleefully exploited. It’s a disgusting and vicious cycle.
History shows that technological genies are very often put back in the bottle when they prove to be destructive, dangerous or show no return on investment. My new article in Unherd. unherd.com/2025/08/how-to…
"AI is coming for everyone" sounds like threat. If you need to threaten academics in order to make them dependent on AI, maybe the technology isn't as amazing as you make it sound.
AI is really p!ssing off a lot of people in academia. But your denial doesn’t matter. The sooner you accept it, the better for you. Sooner or later, AI is coming for everyone whether it’s math, physics, biology, or any other field. It’s hard to accept, but it’s reality.
“Training on copyrighted works w/out a license has become standard practice across the #AI industry,” says CEO of Fairly Trained & former AI exec @EdNewtonRex. Watch Ed’s Ted Talk to learn why this approach is not sustainable and what can be done!ted.com/talks/ed_newto…
So sales this month have been down. To be expected, but I was feeling a little bummed about it. Then we got our 19th straight 5⭐️ review. It hit me that no matter how many books we've sold, people are enjoying the heck out of it and that is MUCH more important. #SpreadingJoy
And immediately after we get something good, this shit happens. Because the tech lords truly want our works for free and want us to be glad when we hand it over. Insanity. cbsnews.com/news/trump-fir…
Lots more to say on this, but the US Copyright Office’s report on generative AI training is superb. It rejects the idea that all gen AI training is fair use, and it makes it clear that licensing training data is the way forward. Plus it destroys a bunch of AI booster mantras…
🚨 BREAKING: The U.S. Copyright Office SIDES WITH CONTENT CREATORS, concluding in its latest report that the fair use exception likely does not apply to commercial AI training. From the report's conclusion: "Various uses of copyrighted works in AI training are likely to be…
Now that's real talk. Exactly my point since this madness started: you cannot train a model from a creator's works to then generate copies that put the creator out of business. If you are saying it's alright and you must not stand in the way of progress, fuck your progress and…
Meta got fried in court: "You have companies using copyright-protected material to create a product that is capable of producing an infinite number of competing products," With potential to obliterate the market for that persons work and they still call fair use? Shame.
Peter Kyle, secretary of state for science, innovation & tech, is still misleading people on UK copyright law. The UK’s copyright landscape has no lack of clarity; rights holders already have control (licensing training data for commercial gen AI is required by law). It looks a…
I welcomed ABBA's @BUlvaeus to Westminster today to discuss how we can deliver clarity to the UK’s copyright landscape and the opportunities AI brings. We are working to deliver a solution which increases control for rights holders while building greater transparency

Ringo award nominations are open. If you enjoyed Killtopia: Complete Edition or Nano Jams + feel we deserve a nom, you can do so here 🙏 ringoawards.survey.fm/ringo-awards-2… We all worked so hard to fund and make the core Killtopia series over 6 years. It’s been a journey 😳
This was my feeling about AI swiping creative work 2 years ago. I still mean every word of it.

I'm not sure how we missed the passing of Robert McGinnis on the 10th of March this year but I'd like to take a moment to say rest in peace to an absolute legend who was still painting at 91. Rest in peace, sir. Thank you for all that beauty. #robertmcginnis
So AI companies aren't even pushing "opt-out" as a solution anymore, they just want your data and life's work for free, but you don't get paid, and you can't say no. Who in their right mind thinks this is okay? It's insanity.
1/4 Well look at that. Open Ai and Google outright reject “Opt-Out” models, hell they even reject basic transparency requirements. AI companies demand they get everything, including our Intellectual Property, for free, and without anyone ever being able to tell the companies no.
a lot of people obviously haven't seen Spirited Away, in which a monster driven by greed consumes people and steals their voices, doing perfect imitations of those it's devoured, and it's hard to think of a better metaphor for generative AI.
Absolutely brilliant letter.
Studio Ghibli distributor 'GKids' on AI Art "In a time when technology tries to replicate humanity, we are thrilled that audiences value a theatrical experience that respects and celebrates Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli’s masterpiece in all its cinematic hand-drawn glory"
