“Of course you wouldn’t.” She clicked her tongue, pressing her lips together and dipping her head in a nod almost to herself. She wouldn’t bother to try to make sense of anything with him. “How come you’re still here?”
“Oh, I wouldn’t worry about it.” That was more than enough of what he could elaborate; there was no need. They both knew exactly what he meant. Though he couldn’t blame her but he sure liked to be petty. Running away is his niche, unfortunately. He’s trying to abandon it.
Her eyes immediately narrowed to slits, but then her face smoothed over. That was all she’d allow herself, and it was too much already. “About which part?” Yes, she can. Those don’t change up on her suddenly and run away.
“Yeah? I’m not surprised,” he said causally, fingertips pressing against one another before he turned the other way. But she can keep up with traveling and her dates, he presumes?
“I presume she’s focused on staying alive and raising that stray of hers. I, on the other hand, have been busy with work. Going on dates. Traveling the world. All that fun stuff.” She can’t keep up with all of that.
“Oh, really? Do tell, what is your darling little sister up to? Actually, more importantly, what are ( you ) up to nowadays?” It changes from time to time.
“Only I get to call her a beast. And it’s more complicated than that.” If she knew that was the trick then she would have done it a long time ago.
