Today marks the one-year anniversary of the start of the #Ebola outbreak in #DRC. It is now a #PublicHealth Emergency of International Concern. But as I argue in @STATnews, Ebola is far from the only challenge that this region is currently facing: ow.ly/A0Cc50visIt

The real public health emergency of international concern: the DRC

To stop the Ebola outbreak in the DRC from spiraling out of control, it must be seen as a symptom of a deeper public health crisis in the country.

Today is #WorldTBDay2019 (Mycobacterium tuberculosis) a day when I also highlight neglected Mycobacterial diseases: Buruli ulcer + Hansen's Disease (Leprosy). Both highly stigmatizing and poverty-promoting #NTDs. We can and should do more to eliminate these ancient afflictions

This is not good: There were 5 Ebola deaths reported today. 4 of them were people who died outside of an #Ebola treatment center, ie they weren't in isolation. That means their caregivers are probably now incubating Ebola. 1/

If medical schools provided #globalhealth education as a core component, students would come to appreciate the complexities of health care, not only within the biologic context but also in light of underlying political and economic principles. nej.md/2NHrTyp

So profoundly sad that in #USA we're not close to elimination. In #Texas+ other states <40% of teenagers receive #HPV #vaccine due to the #antivax lobby. We've condemned a generation of American girls/women to #CervicalCancer for phony antiscience rhetoric nyti.ms/2O3WNS3

I interviewed the key witness to the Michael Brown shooting last night. The police haven't. Think about that.
