Computer vision is used ~primarily~ for surveillance. To deny the field's military origins is ahistorical. So not only is this tweet deeply offensive to the families of 40,000 dead Palestinians, it's also just flat out ignorant.
University of Pennsylvania just declared their encampment 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸
Thank you @marclamonthill for stopping by the Columbia encampment to share your wisdom and teach the students about sumud
shame on columbia, yale, nyu, and all universities violent punishing their students for resisting genocide. history will not be kind to the 21st century nazis in our midst who cheer on genocide
going to be really interesting when Biden tells all the kids he called antisemitic - and told their administrators call the cops on them - to vote for him to avoid fascism
we stand with the brave STEM students and workers at MIT !!

Can't help but feel pride in so many students--Columbia, BU, Yale, UNC, and likely many schools that are not going to get any press--putting themselves on the line for Gaza. Meanwhile, many of my tenured peers haven't said a peep about the genocide in over six months.
the security guard yesterday asking why he had to “guard a bunch of nerds” bc so many students were doing homework 😭
You have to fuck up on a truly historic level to get the NYPD to say “even we think these were meaningless arrests.” They love meaningless arrests!
It's not lost on me that the author of this message, Head of Global Security Chris Rackow, was formerly a Navy SEAL, at the FBI, and a development manager at Raytheon. Military industrial complex and Big Tech going hand-in-glove quite nicely.
joined CNBC just now to talk about this
"I think the really shocking thing was seeing 28 employees fired here. I've been covering tech for a long time, you see these selective firings, but you don't see something that's like 28... that was to send a message," says @alexeheath on Google firing employees for protesting.
