rocking my son back to sleep at 3am one night I was struck by a deep feeling in my heart that every single one of my ancestors was once a baby that someone had to care for, just as I was doing. I felt that runaway chain of love just bursting out of me echoing thru time

and everything in life becomes so much simpler and clearer afterwards. “How will this affect my kids” can be an incredible guiding question that really challenges you to get your shit in order in the ways that really matter. Of course parenthood doesn’t make you perfect–

in early childhood, it’s ~impossible to give a child too much attention. they want everything you can give them. you will likely find in this process that you have far more to give than you previously thought. experiencing this state of maximum presence is deeply nourishing

I'm skeptical that North American cities—the same cities that failed for decades to build enough housing for their own citizens, driving millions into poverty & homelessness—are going to undertake the massive transformations needed to welcome tens of millions of climate refugees.

i’m about to teach a class called “freestyle cooking” the tagline is “learn how to cook without a recipe” but that’s a much narrower and more limited scope than what i actually have in mind

ap_scout أعاد

when you cook at home, you can eat really well for basically the cost of ingredients. sure you’re employing your own labor, which is technically a “cost”. but as you accrue more skill, it starts to become a joy + an added benefit, rather than an arduous or intimidating chore

Let's say you're born and you keep getting things in your eyes so at some point in childhood you put on some goggles and find that they protect you from the grit. You never take them off and eventually forget they're even there. At 30 you complain that the world is dim and grimy

Worst realisations (ie least welcome) i’ve had over the years: - no one is coming to save me, nobody can - there are potentially no limits to how bad i can make myself feel and if i choose that noone will be able to stop me - people who love me are capable of being happy even…

There is no new normal. I find that to be the most shattering fact of the planetary crisis, for most people: There is no point coming (at least in our lifetimes) when things will settle into a new stable, long-term state.
