Given the recent news from Portland...I want this

Whenever a city like Paris builds safe bicycle infrastructure that connects people to where they need to go, people will use it in droves. Car dependence was a choice, foisted on us by automotive and fossil fuel corporations.

Today I met with officials in Helsinki, which has had a ~75% drop in road deaths over the last thirty years (including recent years with no ped/cyclist deaths at all). Me: “How much of a role has IT played in reducing crashes?” City official: “Zero. We simply slowed down cars.”

NEW! @USDOT is seeking your feedback on a critical topic – Intersection Safety. See “Enhancing the Safety of Vulnerable Road Users at Intersections” and see how you can contribute bit.ly/3QIiJgY

Amsterdam in the 70s was dominated by cars and reversed their decision and hasn’t looked back. This is the same road in 1978 vs today. (Amsterdam Archives & Thomas Schlijper)

I don’t know if this is the best or worst presentation i’ve ever seen

This is a slide from a presentation given tonight to #Boulder City Council where historic preservation people are advocating to landmark a (pretty damn ugly) building. One of these is not like the others

Small scale commercial in neighborhoods is one of my favorite things about Portland

“Let’s allow corner stores back into our neighborhoods. Let’s keep things human-scaled with local businesses and small structures that will nestle into our neighborhoods, just like the examples we already know.” How? Reform your zoning codes/bylaws. seattletimes.com/opinion/bring-…
