Week 6: Caroline Herschel 1750-1848!. Astronomer, the first woman to be awarded a Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society, and to be named an Honorary Member of the Royal Astronomical Society and sister of William, who discovered Uranus in Bath, visible at @HerschelMuseum
Week 5: Adela Breton 1849-1923. English Archaeological Artist and Explorer. Growing up in Bath inspired by the @RomanBathsBath to explore for herself. Internationally recoginsed for her work within her lifetime for her work in Mexico, especially at Teotihuacan. Camden Crescent.
Week 4: Emily Blathwayt 1852-1940. Suffragette who created a "Suffragette's Rest" in Bathford as a refuge for suffragettes released from prison after hunger strikes. 47 individual trees were planted to commemorate individuals- who included Emmeline Pankhurst and Millicent Fawcett
Week 3: @JaneAustenBath. She lived in Bath 1801, mostly at 4 Sydney Place, where she enjoyed walking at @fosydneygardens opposite. The novels Northanger Abbey and Persuasion feature Bath heavily, and she is commemorated in the Jane Austen Centre today
Week 2: Mary Shelley 1797-1851. Daughter of Mary Wollstonecraft, author of "Frankenstein" amongst others, lived on the site of the @RomanBathsBath entrance hall in 1816-7.
Week 1: Hannah More 1745-1833 Educator, Writer and social reformer, campaigner against the slave trade and founder of schools for the illiterate working classes. Lived at 76 Great Pulteney Street.
On Millicent Fawcett's 171st Birthday, and the Centenary of female suffrage, we launch our weekly campaign to celebrate the women of Bath.
