Touchscreens in automobiles were found to be "onerous and distracting" in 1986, and still are today. It's design malpractice that some vehicles put frequently used controls (like climate) in a touchscreen instead of a physical control.

Buick created the first car touchscreen on its model Riviera in 1986. The technology was dropped because customers found it onerous and distracting [read more: buff.ly/3iXRoa4] [full video by doktorebuick: buff.ly/3tv2lbv]

I've been digging this iOS 16 feature of randomly shuffling photos on my lock screen – thanks for the tip @cabel! I wish there was an optional way to show the location & date the photo was taken. And maybe the caption, if there is one? And a way to go to the photo in my library?

I set my iOS 17 lock screen to randomly Shuffle a new "Nature" photo from my photo library, every hour… and it has been an absolute delight. It is *always* fun to pick up my phone and remember where I've been.

I just came across this quote and I liked it so much I had to share it. Sometimes words like these just come at the right time. — "It's a slow process, but quitting won't speed it up." —

The very same people who were willing to send American children to war, spend trillions of dollars nation-building, commit war crimes, torture prisoners, & build a massive domestic-surveillance regime in response to 9/11 ... are unwilling to wear masks to stop a daily 9/11.

All maps are abstractions and interpretations – this is a great thread on how sometimes a less realistic representation is more accurate for the viewer.

Why does the sunlight come from the north in shaded relief maps? The sunlight in this map comes from the upper left, but in the northern hemisphere the sun mostly occupies the southern half of the sky, so why isn't it coming from below?

Design nerds: I just used coolors.co for the first time in awhile, and it's really good for exploring color schemes. Thank you @_fbrz for making this great tool.
