Been a lot of stuff online about the celebrations after the Japan win. Heading into yesterday's match, just two players had won more matches than they'd lost for Wales. Only two had also won more than they'd lost in the last three seasons.

Only two had also won more than they'd lost in the last three seasons.

I don't like this.

That's with ticket prices being pretty low relative to previous years. Someone in the WRU once said to me that Wales didn't need to sell games in the stadium. They sold themselves. Turns out letting the game wither and die affects that a little.

Worst Wales crowd in Cardiff in nine years (50k). WRU site said there were 7,800 tickets available for this one yesterday. Doesn't bode well for the others. NZ could be less than 70k for the first time in 21 years, while SA could be half-full.

There's been more than one problem. Gatland was, undoubtedly, one of them. It's mad to suggest otherwise.

58 min chap asleep in crowd in TV shot behind Montoya @lospumas Wales @WelshRugbyUnion If I hadn’t been half asleep myself I’d have snapped it #GatlandwasNotProblem #playersNotGoodEnough

That intercept is almost identical to the one Wales conceded late on against Argentina in Marseille two years ago. Pretty much a carbon copy.

It was 50 minutes into the WRU’s announcement yesterday that they actually announced how many teams they planned to have. An afternoon of diversion, fluff and filibustering - all to decide upon something that they claimed two months ago was sub-optimal. walesonline.co.uk/sport/rugby/ru…

Some interesting stuff in here and one hell of an effort to put it all together

The Welsh Rugby Union Consultation and Survey 2025: Gwlad Rugby publishes its own independent survey relating to the WRU's proposals for the future of our game. Please take the time to read and share. It's important that the WRU is held to account. gwladrugby.wordpress.com/2025/09/29/the…

New season. Same URC refereeing.

As was long expected, Matt Sherratt has left his role as Cardiff head coach to join Steve Tandy's Wales coaching ticket. Good appointment in terms of Wales' attack, but a blow for Cardiff just days before the start of the season. walesonline.co.uk/sport/rugby/ru…

I said that I would do a thread on WRU governance etc, once I had had a better look at the documentation which has been circulating ... First things first - the overriding purpose of a sporting governing body is to protect and to promote that specific sport. Above all else.

Tom Bowen's looking lively for Cardiff in Dublin. Just creates something every time he gets the ball.

Part of the WRU's 90-page consultation claims that no top-level rugby nation has a lower ratio of players to professional clubs than Wales. If you go on registered players, rather than total, and include second-tier pro clubs in England and France, you've got a different picture

Something on the pushback to the WRU's two-club model in the last two weeks. Free part of the newsletter (also available on WalesOnline) concerns the WRPA's survey. Part behind the paywall has some graphs like this - exciting stuff. open.substack.com/pub/walesrugby…
