Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) still feels like sorcery. It was so technically ambitious that animators worked frame by frame to align eyelines and lighting. Spielberg called it “a miracle that should not have worked but somehow did.”
Moe Howard showing how THE THREE STOOGES performed slapstick without hurting each other. (1960)
Random @FFmpeg appreciation post. Even when I'm not trying to use it... the necessity of roping in some ffmpeg voodoo and @opencvlibrary magic comes to the rescue of so many random little side projects. Latest project has been fun, more to come. Open source tools ftw!
THE JUDY GARLAND SHOW was canceled after 26 episodes in 1964, and had every huge star in the world on it. The editor knew CBS would erase all the master tapes, so he secretly stole them and kept them in his house for 40 years. That's the only reason why it exists!

YouTube views are down (don't panic). Some data-backed analysis of the current downturn in views for many channels (especially in tech?), thanks especially to @BuhDan from LTT for help! jeffgeerling.com/blog/2025/yout…
I am building a cooking pan. 3 years ago I asked myself, "if I threw budget out the window, and made the best possible pan that won't be ITAR-restricted, what would I do?" Finally got around to it. Sintered, mirror polished silicon carbide. Single block machined carbon steel.…
Megadeth - ‘Hangar 18’…an edited version for The Arsenio Hall Show but imagine living in a time where shows like this, had bands like this. Special! Mustaine & the gang going hard here too!
Watching the Lord Of The Rings. My husband pauses it at this moment and says.... " This is me... when you start asking me questions." Im dying laughing.
"When I was a child, they told me children are our future. Then I grew up and now they're saying it's actually these new children. I know a Ponzi scheme when I see one." --Norm MacDonald
.@TugboatPhil is correct. I wrote a dissertation decades ago that "Children are our future" is a slogan (a) devoid of any real meaning but (b) used to stop constructive conversation. It's not a good slogan: it's a weapon. Used by unions, politicians, and activists.
A reminder that Scarecrow Video in Seattle has a bigger movie library than all the streaming services combined and you can sign up for a rental-by-mail membership if you live in another state. No reason not to support
HBO Max is a great place to watch Kurosawa and Fellini and Malick movies that get rudely interrupted by diaper commercials every 15 minutes. Continues to be bonkers that you can pay for a streaming service and still get endless in-movie ads. Physical media truly is the only way.
