Delays of over an hour at Birmingham Crown Court today as prisoners arriving late and then having to wait on vans for nearly an hour before unloading. Not sure how the jurors managed to cause this delay. Thank goodness @DavidLammy is going to stop them doing it. @TheCriminalBar
The real cause of the courts backlog is years of underfunding, not the use of juries. The Bar Council and Criminal Bar Association have made this clear. I asked if the govt would publish the evidence base for the removal of many jury trials.
