The free press flourishes every day and does not bow or bend or sign away its Constitutional rights. DOD fails to understand just how much it has given up with its media policy.

Pentagon has set a Tuesday deadline for reporters to acknowledge new policy about soliciting info from “unauthorized” sources. If reporters don’t sign —and statement below suggests they won’t—they’ll be barred from the building (which seems to be Hegseth’s intention all along).

During the fall of Afghanistan, a free press repeatedly surfaced new info about how U.S. troops were in danger and coping w/ an unprecedented situation, prompting adjustments in a crisis. That's the job. Not repeating talking points.

Seems I should add @Mediaite @jbbahney Pentagon press has deployed to more war zones than current leadership, been killed, wounded and suffered from PTS. Nobody squeals on this side of the notebook. I am serious. As an American and journalist for 40 years an apology is warranted

Listen to what Hegseth says here. Journalists do not “squeal” and Hegseths comment is offensive. Journalists protect Freedom of speech and the 1st Amendment just as Hegseths oath of office requires he does. It’s time he learned how the Pentagon actually works. @DanLamothe

“War-ravaged Portland” sounds like the name of a new underground Indie band. When I hear the term “war-ravaged” I tend to think of Aleppo during the Syrian civil war or Mariupol in the war in Ukraine. Does the White House truly believe Portland is equivalent to those locations?

Leavitt: "President Trump will end the radical left's reign of terror in Portland once and for all. The president has directed Secretary Hegseth to provide all necessary troops to protect war-ravaged Portland."
