Just once a year we are directly under a flight path… for #Glastonbury. Almost non stop this morning. I like it: everyone going to make or enjoy #music. I wonder who was/were in that one just now.

Sometimes I fantasise about being a judge for @TheBookerPrizes and if I were then this would be my choice this year. Rich as #christmaspudding (if the cook had put in shrapnel instead of sixpenny pieces). Thanks @simontrewin for sending. #Prophetsong @paullynchwriter

How beautiful is this! The #paperback version of #Fabric arrived from @ProfileBooks - and the lovely surprise for me is how it looks as if a swatch of bright cloth is escaping from between the covers. Launches this Thursday!

Nine-year-old Elizabeth Ginger worked this nearly symmetrical sampler in 1735. Amongst birds, dogs, squirrels, flowers, strawberries, and a lion and unicorn are the First Commandment and the Lord's Prayer. Framing Elizabeth's biographical information are angels holding a crown

The first frost has etched itself across the fields, draining colour from the landscape so that it is an eery shadow of itself in early morning light. This #1860s gown appears to have been touched with a frosted finger, like the Snow Queen, an icy, silky figure @madparisfr

Oh beautiful! @hanavideen’s #TheDeorHord has just arrived from @ProfileBooks and I’m captivated. I wish I’d had this when I studied Old English at #standrews. But more than that, it’s just plain fascinating for anyone who speaks English.

Painting at Bedtime. In the Cafe. Gotthardt Kuehl. This painting is sometimes called 'Lovers in a Cafe', but I can't tell if the lady is just wearing black, or if she is in mourning. Anyone know? Kuehl was an important figure, from Lubeck, in the German Impressionist movement.

This is a LOT! Just in these few square inches of gown, there are so many different fabrics, patterns & techniques. I love the complexity of the #1880s, the sense of ingenuity stitched into the very seams of dresses like this, unexpected angles, fastenings and colours @metmuseum
