In many areas #CycloneMocha has contaminated existing water sources through rising tidewater. CSI is supporting affected communities to clear and dewater ponds ahead of the rainy season to ensure communities will be able to access water over the next year.

#CycloneMocha destroyed the shelters in many communities across Rakhine State, leaving people in need of immediate support to build temporary shelters and rebuild homes. To support cyclone-affected communities, CSI is currently providing tarpaulin sheets to people in need.

“It will be very hard for me to work again. My livelihood situation is not ok and I ask for food from my neighbors and eat what they can give me” said one of the women affected by Cyclone Mocha. Watch the video to hear voices of people affected by #CycloneMocah in Rakhine State.
“I am facing livelihood difficulties after Cyclone Mocha hit our community. There is no one selling or providing water to us.” This is what one community member told us during water distributions in Sittwe. Watch the video to hear him describe the situation.
Because of a lack of access to safe drinking water, communities affected by #CycloneMocha are at risk of consuming contaminated water, which can cause diarrhea, and other water-borne diseases. Yesterday, CSI provided safe drinking water to 243 households in Sittwe township.

Due to the lack of safe drinking water in communities affected by #CycloneMocha, a high risk of waterborne diseases prevails. On the weekend, 4,500 liters of water have been made available to people most impacted by the storm.

After #CycloneMocha, not only are people in need of immediate need for water and food but also support to reconstruct homes. In Sittwe township, more than 80% of homes have been partially or fully damaged. CSI is coordinating with donors and partners to support reconstruction.

After cyclone Mocha hit Myanmar on the weekend, communities across Rakhine State lack access to safe drinking water. Yesterday, water was handed out to communities affected particularly hard. #CycloneMocha

After extremally severe #CycloneMocha hit Rakhine State on Sunday, massive destruction across the area remains behind. Fortunately, team members on the ground are all safe and our facilities were not severely damaged. CSI is ready to contribute to the humanitarian response.

With facilities and teams on the ground, CSI is ready to respond to needs of communities across Rakhine. #CycloneMocha CSI teams will carry out assessment of water, food and shelter needs and provide relief, in close coordination with the humanitarian system.
