I tried to watch the TikTok testimony before Congress but the totally clueless boomers who are in control of the US were giving me so much secondhand cringe with their absolute lack of understanding of any basic tenet of modern social technology that I gave up.

The anti-abortion law that just got resurrected in AZ was part of a code that also said no Black, Indian, or Asian could testify against whites, forbade all marriages between whites and non-whites, and defined the age of consent to be just ten years old. h/t @HC_Richardson
From time to time I’m blindsided by the realization that when I think of my parents as they were when I was in elementary school, they were MY age, which blows my mind. 🤯
Here is our latest release of the Behind the Scenes at @KeyConservation series! This week, we have a new addition to #conservation organization profiles. Organizations can now share an in-depth look at the Big Issues that they face on their profiles. Each issue will have a quick
I suppose I’m asking because I’m wondering if I’ve missed some really important element that makes these stories essential to read at a young age. (Oh & yes before anyone asks, this does mean we don’t do any Disney movies so far either, and they’re not on my radar for now) 6/6
I just feel really uncomfortable with stuff like Rumpelstiltskin, Hansel & Gretel, Snow White, Cinderella, Red Riding Hood etc. where there’s child abuse, threats to babies, violence/death as a positive outcome for “baddies”… without what I would label a justifiable payoff. 5/?

On the other hand, I do see a value in teaching him these stories at some point due to their ubiquity as a reference in Western art, literature and culture. But again, he’s 3. It’s not like there are *zero* villains or threats of violence in his books (think The Gruffalo). 4/?

I hate how many of the old stories feature parental figures as villains, and of the rest how many involve a vulnerable character getting hurt/abused/killed or at least the threat of same. To top things off, I don’t think the so-called “morals” tend to be entirely sound. 3/?

He’s a very sweet, empathetic child, and he gets upset when characters are mean to each other. I’ve just sort of been working from the basis that life is long and there’s plenty of time to learn about murder, violence, torture, betrayal etc. 2/?
