Excellent Sheffield Children Youth and Families Consortium networking and learning event at Zest Community this morning, hearing about their exciting plans for the future. Thanks to David and colleagues at Zest for hosting and others for attending.
Having watched BBC Panaroma this evening I am moved to say this. I feel desperately sad for everyone affected by this appalling case - all the families and, yes, also the man who killed the 3 people in Nottingham. All were clearly let down by the system with tragic consequences.
We do need government to recognise the true value of a more active society, but also the true value of SPORT and the need for new thinking on how to achieve sustained increases in sport participation. The link below is relevant in that context. tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.108…

Loved the Olympics closing ceremony this evening - a wonderful advert for France and for the Olympic movement. When sport, arts and creativity combine in that way it reminds us all of the best of humanity. Can’t say I’m excited about another Olympics in LA though.

Good times today on my volunteer shift at the S6 foodbank - meeting and helping individuals and families struggling with the cost of living and other things. A truly humbling and life affirming experience - the volunteers are great too - such interesting and inspiring people.
Last night people power triumphed over hate and bigotry from a small but significant minority. Well done to everyone who joined the crowds, but the root causes of the riots still need addressing.
Fun times on the golf course this afternoon with my newish neighbour David. My golf was rubbish, albeit on a challenging course - so bad that I now need some new golf balls as I managed to lose most of them - but the company was great. 🏌️🏌️

The riots in recent days have uncovered a deep sense of division, hatred and alienation in our society. We need to foster new models of citizenship if these problems are to be resolved. I am doing some work in this space which I am happy to share if anyone is interested.
We are agreed I think Dave on the analysis. A key role for any credible government is to attempt to unite rather than divide the nation. The Tories failed miserably and deliberately on that one - let’s hope Labour do a better job.
