Genuinely crackers statement from Kemi Badenoch this AM setting out her approach to North Sea oil & gas. As she says, "cheap abundant energy is the foundation of prosperity"... which is why we need to plan to transition away from North Sea O&G and focus on renewables instead🧵

Energy Transfer's case against Greenpeace is a brazen attempt to silence peaceful protest and undermine solidarity with communities that are directly threatened by the actions of oil and gas companies: theguardian.com/us-news/2025/m… 🧵

Brand new research from Uplift confirms the minimal role oil & gas companies are playing in driving forward the UK's energy transition. Just 8% of of North Sea producers will have invested anything in UK renewable energy projects by 2030. More in the 🧵 theguardian.com/environment/20…

BREAKING: we've received permission from the Court of Session to proceed to a full hearing on ALL of the grounds of our legal challenge against the Rosebank oil field. This is a major step towards stopping this disastrous project. Here's why: 🧵

BREAKING 🚨: The UK government has decided not to defend the case against Rosebank. This is a massive win and a huge step towards stopping Rosebank for good.

The government has agreed that the approval of the Rosebank oil field - made without considering the emissions from burning its oil and gas - was unlawful & they won't be defending the judicial review. A great day for the climate! 🌍

BREAKING: The UK gov't has rightly recognised that approving the Rosebank oil field without taking into account the full extent of its climate impacts was unlawful. It has conceded that argument in our & Greenpeace's legal challenge against the field. So what does that mean? 🧵

BREAKING - 5 year campaign wins big - Supreme Court says you can’t grant planning for oil and gas without considering greenhouse gas emissions when that oil is burned . Huge potential impact for any new oil gas or coal projects in UK

WOW! Huge news from Supreme Court - an absolutely giant step forward to a fossil-free future. No longer can oil & gas projects get away with only counting a fraction of real emissions they're causing. Huge congrats to Sarah Finch, @WealdActionGr and @friends_earth #CountTheCarbon

So happy to celebrate this historic win and amazing work by @WealdActionGr, @friends_earth and their legal teams! 🎉 This marks an end to fossil fuel projects being approved without considering their true climate impacts. A wonderful and sensible judgment from the Supreme Court!

Today's decision by the Supreme Court in the Finch case is genuinely historic. It marks a turning point towards more sensible planning-related decision-making in the UK, and crucially towards a safer climate. x.com/WealdActionGr/… 🧵

📢 take action by Friday 📢 Please sign this consultation to support government to say no and to legislate for a ban for oil and gas exploration and licences. Deadline Friday 12 April. Thank you #fossilfreeNI action.friendsoftheearth.uk/target/make-yo…?

Huge & inspiring win @GreenpeaceNorge @NaturogUngdom, with the approval of new oil and gas fields ruled unlawful due to failure to consider climate impacts of the oil and gas to be extracted - based on the same EU Directive implemented in the UK. If Norway can do it, so can we.

A court in Norway, a major oil & gas producer, just invalidated multiple drilling permits on the grounds that climate impacts weren't fully considered. The same assessment process is at the heart of multiple cases in front of UK courts. My thoughts here: theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

The Offshore Petroleum Licensing Bill is a political stunt It won't deliver energy security or lower bills, but will drive climate breakdown & lead to yet more flooding No wonder even Tories are denouncing it @ClimateAPPG @GreenpeaceUK Me for @MetroUK metro.co.uk/2024/01/10/eve…

It's January and Rishi Sunak has already misled us all

It sends exactly the wrong signal at the wrong time, and actively undermines global efforts to tackle climate change.
