It’s also why they tend to get accepted into top tier colleges and universities for their ability to compartmentalize and manage their time. They tend to handle rigorous demands better.
At my school, the "smart" kids were also popular and on varsity sports teams. The captain of the football team was a straight-A student and attended MIT after graduation. The worst students are totally disengaged and don't do sports. This 80's movie trope is wrong.

People assume rejection in ambiguous situations. Why? I’m not sure but there is a lot of research on the topic of rejection and it does overlap even with maintaining professional relationships. People avoid rejection more than they search for connections
No wonder people’s ability to build and maintain healthy/supportive community for themselves is suffering so bad. It’s people on here pushing and into their 30’s who can’t fathom platonic friendships. That’s a level of social rot and deficiency that’ll be hard to reverse.
