The "new" Mental Health Act 2025 will soon be on the statute books. Are there any AMHP's out there who are confident that it will radically change the delivery of mental health services and in particular will it result in more support for the AMHP role?

Are you a social worker or do you know someone who is? How do you fancy some new legal powers to coerce people, with all the risks and responsibilities which come with that? Lord Davies of Brixton thinks you should have this option which could then be seen as an obligation.

NEW BLOG - "New 136 Amendments" Lord Davies of Brixton proposes that 136 become a power for a long list of professionals, including midwives. Some thoughts from me on this. mentalhealthcop.wordpress.com/2025/01/11/new…

This is different to the post yesterday about 136 amendments. Lord Davies of Brixton has been quite busy and I much more get where he's coming from with this one, albeit some questions and issues still arise.

NEW BLOG - "New 140 Amendments" Lord Davies of Brixton has proposes that section 140 MHA be amended to compel wider notification of hospitals which can urgently admit and clear legal obligation and oversight to admit when necessary. mentalhealthcop.wordpress.com/2025/01/12/new…

Mental Health Act - is it's purpose to ensure 'Care and/or Control' - or should it ensure that unwell people are Safeguarded, Cared for and given effective & timely Treatment in a therapeutically sympathetic environment?

NEW BLOG - "Michael Crane" A new PFD means we need to remember s136 MHA is not just about ensuring "control" but also ensuring "care" - not that the PFD expresses itself in such terms but it's worth thinking about as a lesson. mentalhealthcop.wordpress.com/2025/01/08/mic…

Highlights from the MH Bill '24 in a🧵- Section 3 MHA will change: - Autism and LD will no longer qualify for detention under the provision - Will initially last three months, not six; but is still renewable 3-3-6-12-12, etc. - The new "nominated person" is relevant. 1/

Have you ever imagined having to be an AMHP trying to get a s135(1) MHA assessment organised? You need various things in place and you need them all at the same time. A short thread - 1/

The answer/review is always to suggest greater levels of restrictions & coercion & use of the #MHA & that lessons be learnt✔️>
