The full statement on why the government will not compensate women born in the 1950s for state pension age rises bit.ly/4gfADoT It includes an apology for the maladministration the Ombudsman found previous governments guilty of. But no money.
It was an honour to represent @TheGreenParty at the national Remembrance ceremony at the cenotaph this morning. And after observing the minute's silence and the laying of wreaths, I walked from Whitehall to Tavistock Square to join the alternative Remembrance ceremony organised…
Dear @UKLabour Please listen to the 83% who want water in public ownership.
"We have the ridiculous situation of debt being traded by hedge funds who are gambling on water bills going up to finance a bail out... The water companies took a gamble on greed. Let them take the hit." @GreenJennyJones amendment 97 stops bailouts
Word of the day is ‘recrudescence’ (17th century): the return of something terrible after a time of reprieve.
A massive thank you to @ChrisGPackham for closing the @MarchforWater with such a rousing speech & call to action On behalf of all the voiceless species & people This new Government @DefraGovUK must listen People & planet before growth & profit @RiverActionUK
We know what we need to do to fix this crisis in our rivers and seas– it just needs the political will from our leaders and Government to turn from words into action . My full speech yesterday from the @MarchforWater in London .
No mandate?!?!? That's utter nonsense @10DowningStreet !!
The government says it's dropping the Chalk Stream Recovery Pack because there's "no mandate" for it. Anyone else feel like there's more public support for saving our dying chalk streams than cutting the Winter Fuel Payment? chalkstreams.org/2024/11/02/the…
79% of the UK public were opposed to water privatisation. Margaret Thatcher ignored them & pushed on with it anyway. It's turned out even worse than many warned. What's extraordinary is that a Labour government won't consider reversing it. #MARCHFORCLEANWATER #floodthestreets
Tens of thousands of people came from rivers & seas across the country to march through London in the biggest water demonstration in UK history. It was so large that people were still leaving the Albert Embankment as the procession entered Parliament Square. All those marching…
Melissa Green speaking at #MarchForCleanWater 🌊 "@WomensInstitute members every year chose what they want to campaign about. They fight to change the things that deteriorate around them, so they can pass on this world to the next generation, better than they found it" "We…

Instead of expressing "concern" about the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, isn't it time we stopped supplying Israel with the weapons that have caused the catastrophe in the first place?

Saddened to learn that two more swimming pools in East Herts are to close in December because of the loss of central government funding. Some of our swimmers moved to Fanshawe after our own was closed last year. Swimming is a life skill & low cost, accessible activity for many.
I know that many of you will be concerned by the announcement regarding Fanshawe and Leventhorpe swimming pools. I am meeting with stakeholders this week, and you can contact me at [email protected]
Suggestions that solar panels for new homes may just be optional after pressure on Labour from house builders would make mockery of any commitment to greener homes - Labour must face down house builder lobby if it’s to retain any credibility on this 👇 theguardian.com/environment/20…
We've launched #Refill. With @WareTownCouncil, we've signed up to reduce plastic pollution on our streets & in the sea, aiming to reduce single use plastic - with places to top up reusable water bottles. Many local businesses have committed to join us! ow.ly/WBcX50TPHva 🚰
I was also very pleased to meet trustees of the Ward Freman Community Pool group, who are seeking to raise around £190,000 to restore the local pool which closed in December last year. I am fully supportive of their bid to reopen this vital community facility. #NEHerts 2/2
I'm proud to be co-sponsoring the 'Sunshine Bill' introduced in Parliament yesterday☀ It's simple and obvious: new homes should be fitted with solar panels as standard!✅ This would bring down household bills, cut emissions, and help make every new home fit for the future!🏠
