In 53-47 vote, the Senate CONFIRMS Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. She will be the first Black woman and first former public defender to serve as a justice. Jackson will be sworn in when Stephen Breyer retires this summer. (Sketch below by @Courtartist)

Watch your step, concrete ceiling just shattered. Congratulations to the Honorable SUPREME. COURT. JUSTICE. Ketanji Brown Jackson. Now read that again.

One of the reasons why the American ruling class is so adamantly against free healthcare is that the threat of losing your employer-based insurance is an incredibly powerful disciplining tool to use against the work force.

A Texas woman was put on an emergency flight to Colorado *in the middle of a miscarriage* to save her life, and NPR just gets quotes from both sides of the ‘saving women in mortal peril’ debate & calls it a day. Things might get awkward if you ask John Seago follow-up questions!

So I'm reading that Elon Musk, who founded Tesla in 2003 and first had a profitable year in 2020, is concerned that Build Back Better might, for a while, add modestly to the budget deficit while it invests in children and the environment

On Texas near-total abortion ban, SCOTUS says providers can proceed with legal challenges against some officials. But law remains in effect for now, and a ruling on the merits could take a long time. Context on its impact so far, from @TexasObserver: texasobserver.org/texas-abortion…

NOW: Supreme Court gives abortion providers a narrowed pathway to challenge a Texas law that essentially bans abortions after 6-weeks, but declines to side with the Justice Department in a separate challenge. Opinion 1: supremecourt.gov/opinions/21pdf… Opinion 2: supremecourt.gov/opinions/21pdf…

🧵 I’m a broken record here, but: Abortion restrictions in recent years have not occurred in a vacuum. In Texas and around the US, access to other kinds of reproductive health care—including those necessary to a safe pregnancy and delivery—has also diminished or is unavailable.

Vax apartheid is bad. But don’t confuse the issue when critiquing the recent travel ban. Antiblackness is at the root of reactionary narratives placing Africa at the site of origin & spread of omicron instead of SA being the 1st to identify new variants present around the world.

yes let’s debate whether it’s better to have one hour of sunlight on the way to work or on the way home from work rather than question whether the workday should be so long as to take up all the sunlight on a winter’s day

I have covered many a protest on this very bridge where the NYPD has stood ready to beat the shit out of and arrest everyone.

The NYPD and other municipal workers just blocked traffic on the Brooklyn bridge, not to protest murders, but to protest vaccine mandates.
