as an anthropologist, one of my specialisations is authoritarianism & revolutionist practice in response to it one of my research foci for is the social processes of a society's descent into authoritarianism a historian once told me: it happens slowly, then all at once.
As a somatic trauma therapist, I wish people could throw on some mourning clothes For regular non-traumatic grief, it can take about a year to get through the worst of the grief. Complicated grief takes longer It’s not fair people are expected to “get over it” in 30-60 days
Disability comes with struggling with hygiene at least some of the time. If you say that you support disabled people but make fun of people for that, you don’t really support disabled people.
3) insensitive. We know what the risk vs reward is for us on individual level and have to often assess this daily. We know what the reward is SUPPOSED to be for working out but for many of us that’s not the case.
2) aren’t rewarded in the same way. We are actually oftentimes punished for working out or even doing basic things like showering or cleaning. We can end up in a flare, in more pain, or with a worsened baseline. This is why continuing to tell us to workout can be so
1) I think generally healthy/abled people often feel better when they workout so they offer this advice to chronically ill/disabled people thinking we will get the same results. The harsh reality is that a lot of chronically ill/disabled/chronic pain patients

"Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women." - Maya Angelou I wish for all women who stand up for themselves in the face of their trauma the hero's welcome they deserve. Brava👏👏👏👏
Considering sending us a proposal? There are a limited number of presenter bursaries available for this event. These are intended for artists whose attendance at the symposium would not be possible without financial support. Details on how to apply will be available soon!

Completely heartbroken at the passing of Micka, who I had the absolute privilege of getting to move with and observe over the years of my research. What a force, I will carry her energy with me in all my dances ☄️
It is with immense sadness that Candoco receives the information that former company dancer and dance artist, Mickaella Dantas has passed away peacefully on the 10th of February 2024 with her parents by her side, after a long battle against cancer. Read more in the thread below.

Some key takeaways from this #SXSW panel on tools for accessibility in the metaverse: 1) Changing access needs, access needs to be fluid and customized 2) Idea of creating trauma informed spaces of care 3) Watch for normatively in tools, body depictions

Elaboration on point one - levels of pain, mobility, ability to engage, experiences or trauma vary from day to day. #SXSW
Point two - I love this idea of spaces of care because it starts from an idea of nourishing and enriching, and being in community rather than starting from a place of a lack or othering. #SXSW
