I still do not understand, given geofence speed limiting technology is mature and proven, why this is not required in new cars. I'd argue we could drop national speed limits to 50mph, saving huge amounts of fossil fuel and retrofit all vehicles with a simple speed limiter.

I live in a big city. I’m a 68 year old life-long Californian who has never owned a car. Today I rode 9 Muni buses, rode 8 miles on a bike, walked over 7000 steps - and also got a lot of work done. Just sayin’, it’s do-able.
