A new study @NatureEcoEvo led by @XiaojuanLiu3 shows: Plant diversity can affect ecosystem functioning directly and by affecting other trophic levels. Data was derived from subtropical forests at the BEF China experiment as well as temperate grasslands @jena_experiment.
Really happy that this study is out in @JAppliedEcology led by @MariGliesch! Using a long-term drought experiment, we show that summer drought causes heathland soil to lose C under grasses and older heather plants. (1/x) besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…

Roughly 4000 poplars, 200 currant shrubs, plus summer barley, mycorrhizal inoculant and some hundred meters of fence later, we’ve finished setting up 2 new agroforestry systems for the KlimAF project @JKI_Bund . And the plants are starting to grow
Biodiversity stabilizes productivity. Check ☑️ Biodiversity also increases ecosystem multifunctionality. Check ☑️ But does biodiversity also increase the stability of multifunctionality? Spoiler: yes! Our latest study @GlobalChangeBio: doi.org/10.1111/gcb.17…
The first chapter of our PhD student Leonardo Bassi is now published in @Oikos_Journal! We show that declining monoculture biomass over time (18 years!) is linked with root traits of the collaboration gradient and an aboveground trade-off in physical vs chemical defence.

We're looking for someone interested in #MycorrhizalFungi 🍄, the networks they form🌱, and how they interact with other organisms to join us for a #PhD @PPS_UoS ! You'll be supervised by myself, @dylan_childs and @JurriaanTon 🤩, details here👀 : findaphd.com/phds/project/a… pls RT
I had a great time at #iMMM2023 the last days. Thank you @dromius for organising this lovely opportunity to nerd about mycorrhiza
#iMMM2023 it’s now Cynthia Albracht with data showing that ‘Soil history rather than plant history determines arbuscular mycorrhizal community assembly’
What I presented yesterday at #NWOLife has also just recently been published: doi.org/10.3389/fsoil.…
#GSB2023 Super surprised and excited to get the poster prize by @FEMSmicro @theGSBI I receive a lot of encouragement and have great connections. Such a fantastic conference!!! Same as our fantastic (GSB)group! @MorrienElly @frantecol @FangbinH @MariGliesch @cyn_alb
Interested in how arbuscular mycorrhizal communities change in response to plant diversity and soil history? Come see me at my poster (P162) at #GSB2023 to see some nice results from the @jena_experiment
