The way you see money shapes how you attract, manage, and multiply it. Every amount you will ever have starts first in your imagination. If you can’t picture it in your mind, how will you ever see it in your bank balance?
A scarcity mindset is a limiting mindset. It constantly tells you that money is hard to get, resources are limited, and wealth is out of reach. It keeps you stuck in a cycle of “not enough,” and as a result, you stop seeking opportunities to make more money.
You will either operate from an abundance or a scarcity mindset. The abundance mindset believes there is more than enough to go around. Instead of focusing on limitations, you see endless opportunities to make money. You are focused on creating wealth, instead of fearing lack.
Mindset is the foundation on which financial success is built. As Napoleon Hill once said, “If you do not see great riches in your imagination, you will never see them in your bank balance." Your money mindset shapes the limits or possibilities of your financial future.
Your sharing ratio can be 50/30/20, 60/30/10, or any other variation that suits your priorities or financial situation. The key thing is that a significant portion goes to your needs.
Savings is money set aside for future purposes or emergencies. The sharing ratio approach to budgeting gives you a clearer view of where your money goes.
A simple way to build your budget is by adopting a sharing ratio that will split your income into needs, wants, and savings. Needs are essential expenses that you can’t survive without, such as shelter and food. Wants are lifestyle expenses, not essential to your survival.
Remember that, your ratio doesn’t have to stay the same forever. You can always adjust it as your priorities or financial situation change. The skill of effective budgeting is knowing how to tell the difference between your needs and your wants.
The first step to taking control of your finances is creating a budget. A budget doesn’t have to be something complex that only a finance professional can handle. The simpler your budget is, the easier it is to stick to.
