The typical business would have to sell for much more than $1 million in order for the sale to result in taxable income above $1 million, according to @massbudget senior analyst Kurt Wise. “ masslive.com/politics/2022/… #YesOn1

Mass. small business sales mostly won’t trigger ‘millionaire’s tax,’ report finds
Ballot Question 1 would impose a 4% surtax on incomes exceeding $1 million if passed. A report found that small business sales mostly would not be affected by the surtax.
Is anyone else concerned on where @FairShareMA is located on the physical ballot? Every other ballot question fills the entire page, very clear. Ballot Question 1 is squished on just 1/3rd of the right side of the page. Very easy to overlook. #bospoli #mapoli
In “The Anti-Oligarchy Constitution,” Joseph Fishkin and William E. Forbath argue that understanding the nature of capitalist domination requires talking about the economy in political language, not as an apolitical sphere apart from the rest of society. jacobin.com/2022/10/rich-r…

The Constitution Can Be a Weapon in the Battle Against Oligarchy
From the US’s beginnings, progressive forces have tried to use the Constitution to expand democracy and resist rule by the rich. But overcoming oligarchical threats to freedom and democracy requires...
When everyone chips in equitably, Massachusetts will have more resources to support public schools, make public colleges affordable, and upgrade public transportation, write @SenWarren and @RepPressley. We encourage everyone to vote yes on Question 1. trib.al/njHiDDD
Anti-tax folks should be banned from society. Stop driving our roads, sending your kids to our public schools, using our waste management, our public parks, voting. Y'all complain endlessly about freeloaders/welfare state. We're tryna have a society. Get on board or GTFO
Tired of paying $4, $5, $6 a gallon for gas. Here's why: 2nd Quarter Profits Exxon Mobil:⬆️280% to $17.9 billion Chevron:⬆️277% to $11.6 billion Conoco:⬆️146% to $5.1 billion End corporate greed. Enact a windfall profits tax. Redistribute the revenue to working class commuters.
These billionaires aren’t letting the truth get in the way of their desperate attempts to defeat us. So we have to get in their way. We have to talk to every voter we can in these final 2 weeks—and it will take all of us. Come win Yes on 1. fairsharema.com/volunteer
A 4% tax on income *after* $1M in 1 year is pennies on the dollar for those lucky & rich enough to make that much. Billionaires are making up math to lie that 4% after $1M is a big change—but it’s just getting them to pay as much of their incomes in tax as the rest of us.
They want you to believe that middle class homeowners are the ones who’ll pay more—even though only the 895 biggest mansions (of 100K MA houses sold in 2021) were pricey enough for the sellers to pay more. But they don’t care about the truth—they care about their own bottom line.
Six billionaires are so scared of paying their fair share in taxes that they’re paying to put outright lies on TV. They’re pretending that working people and middle class families would pay more. But that’s why Question 1 starts at $1,000,001: so only the richest 1% pay.
The next time you hear someone blame inflation on stimulus checks that Americans got almost two years ago, remind them that corporate profits are at a 70-year-high.
Oil prices today: $85.90 a barrel Gas prices today: $3.85 a gallon Oil prices in April 2010: $85.66 a barrel Gas prices in April 2010: $2.85 a gallon Gas prices are $1 a gallon higher than they should be because of Big Oil's greed. We need a windfall profits tax.
Inflation Rate 🇪🇺: 10.9% 🇩🇪: 10.9% 🇬🇧: 10.1% 🇮🇹: 9.4% 🇪🇸: 9% 🇮🇪: 8.6% 🇺🇸: 8.2% No. Inflation is not going up in the U.S. because the working class got a $1,400 check 19 months ago. Multinational corporations are jacking up prices worldwide.
Markup (noun): What a corporation charges consumers on top of production costs, to generate profit. Example: The biggest recorded year for markups was 2021.
InFlAtIoN another word for corporate greed
Bigger corporate profits account for *over half* of the higher prices people are paying.
"From your perspective, what can be done to really merge the two parties?" Q from @KwaniALunis nbcboston.com/news/local/10-… Nothing!! Nobody wants to merge the 2 parties! We want 3rd and 4th options - Terribly out of touch Q esp after saying y'all asked "independents" 🙄
