In the wake of the scandal of the week, some colleges that are doing it right:
Quick thread: A bunch of people have been RTing my story on Berea College, so I figured I would highlight a couple more stories on colleges outside of the most-selective and the work they're doing: theatlantic.com/education/arch…
Hate is not something that just happens to people. Someone chooses to act, media chooses to paint a narrative, education chooses to erase history, governing bodies choose to weaponize law. When those in power have the right of way to continue dehumanization, it's structural.

If you still think that Marie Kondo's thanking objects is weird, look at our collective response to Opportunity not answering JPL's final call. Whether you think things have spirits of their own or not, we imbue them with meaning, and give them stories. It's what we do. #Oppy
This is an incredible perspective. I’ve never seen the Earth and Moon both looking so stark and alien in a single photograph.
This is a picture of the far side of the Moon and Earth beyond, captured on Feb. 4 by a camera on board the student-built Chinese DSLWP-B/Longjiang-2 satellite and received by the amateur-operated Dwingeloo Telescope in The Netherlands. (HT @AJ_FI @radiotelescoop)

probably my favorite part of having a masters in library science is loudly announcing "actually i am a MASTER OF IT" whenever someone questions my library authority
Instead of retweeting a photo taken without consent of a woman using a blindness cane and a phone, why not retweet this thread and learn about how people with vision impairments use phones to help with orientation and mobility? Here's how I use my phone as a blindness cane user
"Your W-2 is available online! So much more convenient!" Convenient for the employer, not the employee. The hoops people have to jump through to get their tax forms online are just the digital divide in another form.
As a furloughed scientist, I thought it worthwhile to use my PhD skills to look at evidence for the president’s claims of a national security crisis & whether his desire for a wall is an adequate justification for a government #shutdown that has cut off pay for 800,000 Americans.
I will never understand why someone would announce they've never been in a public library like that's something to be proud of. I mean, go to one or don't, but acting like avoiding a taxpayer-funded community resource is some sort of accomplishment? Weird flex but ok, I guess.
As far as I can tell, what Marie Kondo actually said is that SHE owns about thirty books. I see nothing wrong with this.
