The filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan weathered some of the wildest hype and harshest backlash that Hollywood has to offer, @davidlsims writes. Now he’s found a different path: theatlantic.com/magazine/archi…

it’s not news that the media is particularly (and unwarrantedly) cruel to taylor swift but the way men feel entitled to speak about women, their bodies, and their sex lives needs to be seriously evaluated

A powerful force for disinterest, Netflix — there's a new Wes Anderson thing waiting to be watched at my earliest leisure and I'm like "eh I'll get to it when I get to it"

this Toy Story football broadcast seems to be using incredibly innovative and sophisticated technology to create a freakish niche nightmare everyone hates

I was thinking of VHS covers!!! we never had the cardboard VHS covers

Just to update all concerned parties: Yes, Griffin is watching the Toy Story NFL game Yes, David acknowledges that there were snap-case DVDs in the UK

let’s name some guys

Listening to the Fight Club episode this morning, and when David responded to the invocation of John Henson with "from the Milwaukee Bucks?" I engaged Hoot and Holler Mode

I mean if Zurg is in the field that should be addressed

i'm dying at the Disney + Toy Story NFL broadcast, where the announcers are just doing sincere, adult-focused play-by-play and analysis but every once in a while they have to go "and oh no, Zurg is here!"

indeed. worth remembering that all of Glazer’s prior films (three masterpieces) got very mixed reception on release

To be honest, it never felt right that THE ZONE OF INTEREST — to me a flat-out stunner, one of the year’s few major festival hits that feels genuinely bracing in form and outlook — attracted as much critical consensus at Cannes as it did. Snarky/bemused/bad takes are overdue.

mezzo-mezzo

How would you say your overall psyche after watching all of these relatively recently
