If Lingard did indeed tell Rangnick that he didn't want to be involved against Crystal Palace next week. And that led to the fight with Maguire, who didn't like his attitude. Then that is the first bit of true captaincy shown by Maguire all season.
It's a slow build. But the bricks are being laid one by one. Mbueno and Amad were superb in their defensive work, as well as being a constant nuisance going forward. Utd's set piece goal input has increased no end since Amorim arrived. We're still in a congested mix for Europe.
For seventy minutes, it felt different. We've had good performances in the past under Amorim. But yesterday looked like the penny had finally dropped. A belief in the manager, the system, and each other. But the substitutions proved that this squad is still far from complete.
It's great to beat Liverpool. And to win two consecutive league games at last. But the most important aspect of the game tonight is the application and desire shown by the lads today. For me, the win was a bonus. Because the players needed to believe in themselves and the system.
How can the panel of experts pick the nominations for the SPOTY by selecting four England women's footballers. Kelly, Hampton, Bronze, and Williamson. But omit the one player who was instrumental in their successful defence of the trophy. Agyemang should have been a given.
Comfortable is not a word that you associate with Utd these days. But today's game was as close as they're likely to get to that. And that was predominantly down to Mount. Who had his best and most industrious game in a red shirt. Ably helped by the willing running of Sesko.
Park has been a little ferret it that Utd midfield so far tonight. Not only breaking up attacks in her own half. But also driving deep with the ball, into the Chelsea half. Whether she can keep this energy up for ninety minutes will have a big bearing on the final result.
Samuel Luckhurst says Utd's players are flabbergasted by how quickly their performances have deteriorated since the start of the season. So basically, they are surprised that they are playing badly again. Have they not been paying attention to the last ten years then.
If there is one thing that is the biggest bugbear of mine in the modern game. It is people holding up 'Assist' stats as if it is equal to scoring a goal. I take no heed of such things. It is a get out of jail card on many occasions for failing strikers.
I feel like I have committed treason for having the slightest negative thought about Amorim. The man that was finally going to bring Utd back to life. I can't be alone. But slowly, Ruben is turning into Ten Hag. And that's not the man that I put my faith in. Still, I feel guilty.
VAR does not correct mistakes. It just gives authority to some bloke in a chair, rather than some bloke on his feet. They look for reasons to get involved. They take minutes out of the game. They are inconsistent with the rules. It offers nothing to this sport.
The Americans tried to make the course easy. That backfired. The fans tried to be raucous. That backfired. And they thought they could out put us. That backfired, too. And their team selections were bazaar, to say the least. Captain Bradley looks completely out of his depth.
I'm like a kid at Xmas, with the Ryder Cup only a couple of days away. And with the opening ceremony being brought forward to later today, due to expected bad weather. Then it seems closer still. To bring back that trophy again would be the sporting achievement of the year.
Who cares if Amad wants to put up pictures of him and his buddy Garnacho. They got along at Utd and both early twenties. They share the same agency. Some Utd fans need to stem this new wave of getting upset at the drop of a hat. Or they will find another young talent hounded out.
The true worth of Bruno Fernandes will only be appreciated when he has departed. He is consistently our best and most potent player, whichever position he finds himself playing. The criticism he receives is unjustified. Because he has carried the team since his arrival.
What a great 'Finisher' Solskjaer was. Just stop it.
That was a good win today. A win that was badly needed. But marred imo, by the needless jeering of a young former player who always tried his best when wearing our shirt. That was not in the Utd tradition. And to be fair, there was a mixed reaction from the fans around me.
So Emery is being touted as the next in line. What does he possess that the likes of Mourinho, Van Gaal, Ten Hag, etc, could not produce. He may well finally be the answer. But more likely, he will be just another notch on the bedpost. A good beginning that tails off is his CV.
People are talking as if every game has been a total disaster. It hasn't. Sunday's game was the first this season, which was truly disappointing. Ruben must have all of the season. Only then can he be fully judged. With full weeks to work with the squad. Accountability is then.
