Must watch for anyone interested in the history of “Object Oriented Programming” and how we got here: youtu.be/wo84LFzx5nI?si… Journeys as far back as the early sixties and debunks some common misconceptions along the way.

Sums up the state of journalism pretty nicely. Ie. journalists publish whatever is fed to them. Whether from a PR team or an AI. There is 0 fact checking.

The Chicago Sun-Times published an upcoming summer books list that is obviously AI. The clues are that there is no byline and at least 8 of these titles do not exist.

Excellent post on what trade offs to consider when deciding between different approaches to concurrency in web apps. In particular, most Rails apps would achieve the best results using a process based web server (ie. unicorn or pitchfork).

I want to write a post about Pitchfork, but before I can get to that I need to share some thoughts. I suspect this one may be more controversial than the optimizing JSON series 😅. byroot.github.io/ruby/performan…

Your codebase isn't complex because programming is hard It's complex because you've been told to focus on the wrong things Data in -> Transform -> Data out That's all any program really does

Feels good to be a Ruby developer with these kinds of innovations developed within the community! ❤️

TIL: It's possible to programatically open a <select> list with the showPicker() method: developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web… ... Except in Safari 😭 Interestingly GPT-4o has no clue about it and will insist on dispatchEvent hacks which haven't worked in years.

You know how we make fun of how large computers were in the 60s? 👀

Amazingly consise, no JS required, implementation of popover menus using the native HTML popover attribute + CSS position-anchor directive: github.com/reclaim-the-st… If only it worked outside of Chrome 😭
