Reopening schools CAN be done IF: 1. DCPS and Charters ensure all schools PROPERLY follow protocols 2. Teachers and staff are allowed time to be fully vaccinated and protected 3. We continuously monitor and respond thoughtfully to special situations and needs Thoughts?

Safety issues require urgent action This is a basic understanding of any functioning school district

We HAVE to get this right TODAY. You had all summer to make this safe for our kids @DCPSChancellor @dcpublicschools @DDOTDC @DCDGS. Parents trusted that YOUR transpo teams “had this”. Your SIT staff told us “they know how to do this.” They don’t. fix now. Pls help @charlesallen

Thank you @20003ist and @kdrkrepp for speaking for parents and students last night on @ABC7News. We won’t rest until the entire public school system is doing all it can to #ProtectOurChildrenDC. Our system has failed & been lax for too long. wjla.com/features/7-on-…

What would we do without concerned parents and media to help. KEEP PUSHING. Ferebee Continues to show he doesn’t care about the children in this city @dclinenews @ABC7News @WashInformer @DCPSChancellor

We always ask poor black and brown kids to beat the odds, be resilient, have grit. But never talk about fixing the system that requires that of them.

I'm making sure my security clearance is up to date...

Parents are grateful for media b/c we don’t see action & transparency from the city without you re schools too. Ex: lead in water, sewage in school cafeteria, & sexual misconduct against minors. You would think the issues alone would make city leaders jump, but not without media

This is a good story: a dedicated resident attracts attention to problem, reporter does a good story on it. But it’s also a problem: that resident should not have to rely on the media amplifying their message to get something seemingly simple done.

I heard from three separate sources about the involuntary transfer. Do you know which person went to which school?

@dcschoolmonitor word on the street is that bully teachers B shaw and Y Kane were transferred out of JO Wilson by central office to reign their terror at Burroughs Elementary and Randle Highlands Elementary.

Frankly I can less about the letter. In most states if you do not have this background done... you cannot teach or be in a school. Also, the fact that no member of Council or SBOE chose to attend this meeting is disgraceful

Exactly. Well said. Complete lack of pro-active effort and transparency. These are simple, common practices followed by all organizations - particularly those where adults are in power positions over children.

This letter is fine. As a start. Where is the timeline and plan for resolving the 1300 or so who need their clearances updated. Without a plan with dates and milestones there continues to be just talk WITHOUT transparency. Take it seriously.

He was very casual about this and tried to slide it in during the later part of the conversation. I couldn’t believe my fucking ears

I hoped to hear instead, "Bottom line, it is unacceptable we haven't been doing what it takes to meet even basic safety requirements. We will work around the clock until we have a comprehensive, transparent system of protections incl 100% background checks, training & supports"

Interesting article but it’s incomplete. In many DC cases Reenrollments in new schools are based on serious student issues on a path to be removed from their original school, a failing school OR a lack of parent involvement. Moving students often moves the problems. It’s complex
