I hate the whole die der das thing. I can read it, but never remember which one to use and when. I am glad English dropped the whole "Chair is female", "Carpet is male" bollocks way way back in the day.
Languages are like coding standards. Just old and hard, close to impossible to change.
English did. :-) We were invaded by ... Well, everyone, and they all had their own version of Tree is male, tree is female, tree is neutral. Every 5 minutes it changed. So, to remove confusion, removed them all. Germany is making all 'new' words neutral. Which is nice.
