One of the biggest misconceptions about grief is that we only experience it when a person dies. You can experience grief when you lose a job or when a relationship ends. You can also grieve the idea of something like if you or a loved one suffers a health issue.
When Black people peacefully marched for equality, they were met by resistance. Resistance led to brutalization. Today marks the 56th anniversary of the event where state troopers violently attacked peaceful protesters. My parents were teenagers when Bloody Sunday took place.
