I think innovations happen only when the elites are fiercely competing vs each other. For that reason, European elites went on to colonise & innovate all upto WWII/collapse of Soviet. Thanks to caste comfort, Indian elites have 0 motivation to innovate, rather just rent seek.
For the same reason why Indian elites never innovated anything, despite having all privileges for centuries - rent seeking behaviour. Necessity is the mother of all inventions. When caste handed away all comforts to a minority elite, there was no reason to try anything new.
