What is P(Doom)? I've been thinking about A(G)I safety and have written down some tentative thoughts..first part of a series: Amelia Bedelia and A(G)I Safety. blog.dileeplearning.com/p/amelia-bedel…
1/4) I’m excited to announce that I have joined the Paradigms of Intelligence team at @Google (github.com/paradigms-of-i…)! Our team, led by @blaiseaguera, is bringing forward the next stage of AI by pushing on some of the assumptions that underpin current ML. #AI #neuroscience
Hello world Unconventional, Inc. I’ve gotten a new company off the ground. It’s a big swing…rethinking the foundations of a computer to build a new substrate for intelligence that is as efficient as biology. Brain Scale Efficiency without the biological baggage! We CAN do it.…
My reaction while reading the Yudkowsky and Soares book: I wish it was less wrong. 😇
More JEE coaching is the answer 😇
The reason top tech companies often hire foreign-born & first-generation engineers over “native” Americans isn’t because of an innate American IQ deficit (a lazy & wrong explanation). A key part of it comes down to the c-word: culture. Tough questions demand tough answers & if…
The current anti-Indian sentiment in America is nothing new. It’s a tired, recycled view. And as history shows, always a losing argument. Anti-Irish 1840s–1850s Portrayed as drunkards and troublemakers and racially inferior. “No Irish Need Apply.” Anti-Chinese 1870s–1880s…
We’re announcing a major advance in the study of fluid dynamics with AI 💧 in a joint paper with researchers from @BrownUniversity, @nyuniversity and @Stanford.

.@POTUS has been asking for evidence on the effectiveness of covid vaccines, saying the "CDC is being ripped apart over this question." At Elicit, we strongly believe in evidence-based policymaking. We also know that evidence synthesis is hard - there's a lot of information out…

Yes, but the devil is in the details. What error function? What is the learning rate? Do you anneal? Explore or exploit? PyTorch or Jax? 😇
This evaluation and improvement process exactly mirrors the evolutionary process I described earlier. It means looking at how to improve or change the design or people to achieve your goals. #principleoftheday

Introducing Fifty Years Requests for Startups The 5050 AI track supports AI researchers building an aligned AI future. Below are 5 ideas we’d love to back. These are great opportunities to build safe AI, but not the only ones. If you’re building in this space, reach out.

In the 1920s, aeronautics was at a similar stage AI is today. To maintain leadership US government put export controls. On what? On Helium!! Helium Act of 1925! And Germans perfected hydrogen dirigibles which then vastly outnumbered helium dirigibles at the peak of that era.
export controls tried to kill China's chip designers... but may have accelerated them instead evidence from the vanguard shows how memory breakthroughs, sparse computing, and energy-compute optimization are building decisive advantages for China's sovereign AI ecosystem we're…

….I’m glad my handyman doesn’t rely on PhD level intelligence …. 😇

Public policy should do everything possible to facilitate the adoption of self-driving cars. Thousands of lives could be saved.

Much needed debunking of @tomfriedman's embarrassing column. Doesn't @nytimes do fact checking any more?
A response to the NY Times' Thomas Friedman's "magical thinking" on AI ⬇️
As a back up, please develop a methodology to measure the positive GDP impact of endless meme creation and consumption 😇
Fwiw I'm with many in believing that rather ruthless prio of AI for SWE (and AI research/prod) is strictly necessary for gdp to start ticking up in the ways that many hope. All knowledge work is swe-reliant, or soon will be, even if in the background.
It's not because it's run by coders. It's because that is a high-value use case where LLMs work the best.
The problem with the fact that the AI labs are run by coders who think code is the most vital thing in the world, is that the labs keep developing supercool specialized tools for coding (Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, etc.) but every other form of work is stuck with generic chatbots
Excited to share our new work on the large-scale organization of the tree shrew visual system, led by @FrankLanfranchi with @joe_wekselblatt & Daniel Wagenaar! We trace the evolutionary roots of the primate ventral visual pathway—revealing surprises like face cells in a…
The primate visual system is a marvel of nature, inspiring the convnet. But how did it evolve? Do all highly visual mammals possess a ‘ventral stream’—a hierarchy of brain areas with increasing selectivity for complex forms? In our new study, we tackled these questions using…

Helping to improve human health is one of the most important uses of AI. Insightful discussion with @TomMackenzieTV on Bloomberg Tech Europe of our great progress @IsomorphicLabs designing new drug candidates for challenging targets. bloomberg.com/news/videos/20…
Shocked and saddened by the shooting of Charlie Kirk. I didn’t know him well, but after my podcast with Tucker aired, he reached out through a mutual friend with kind words—a gesture that stayed with me. My heart goes out to his family.
A reminder to read this paper from Akarsh, Kenneth, Joel and Jeff. Just like WGCBP caused a revolution in my thinking on AI, this new perspective is the best intuition pump there has ever been to understand what is missing from current AI. When you see it, you can't unsee it -…
If you’re struggling to understand what people mean when they say things like “truly understand,” it boils down to Unified Factored Representation (UFR). That’s the foundation behind the slippery intuition.
