The organisation which processes payouts on our behalf is cutting down their payout schedule from 3 days a week just Tuesdays and Fridays which means you may have to wait a bit longer for the grant to be paid. Starting next week payouts are Tuesdays and Fridays.
Not worth saying anything more about the “spring statement” budget today, other than to say that no one is coming to save us. We have to look after each other. Strong supportive communities holding each other up with mutual aid. opencollective.com/downhamsolidar…
Helen Barnard, policy research director @TrussellUK : “The Treasury’s insistence on driving through record cuts to disabled people’s social security to balance the books is both shocking and appalling. People at food banks are telling us they are terrified how they’ll survive.”
Landlordism is out of control.
Our rotten economic system summed up in one sentence.
The most vulnerable should not shoulder the burden caused by cowardly not taxing the mega wealthy. These cuts to disabled people must not happen. Pleased to hear MP @CllrTerryJermy speaking against it today on Radio Norfolk. Hopefully he will vote with his conscience on this 🗳️
The fund currently sits at £49. Please share so anyone who may need support can request it. opencollective.com/downhamsolidar…
Downham Solidarity Fund is mutual aid, neighbours helping neighbours, like we saw during covid. Started in response to the cost of living crisis, we provide emergency grants to people who need financial support. Funded by donations within our community. opencollective.com/downhamsolidar…
Yesterday we wrote to MP Terry Jermy about the proposed cuts to welfare, in particular PIP. We’re pleased to see a response today from him. The government must not go ahead with these plans. See his Facebook for the full statement.
Exactly. Political choices. Stop choosing to cut the poor.
I spoke to the @BBCr4today this morning about why cuts to disabilty benefits are a political choice - and the wrong one.
The support we provide people comes from donations made in solidarity with the Downham community. Some people have been long term regular donors and have contributed a significant amount over time. Special thank you to those people! Read more: opencollective.com/downhamsolidar…
This is evil.
ITV News has just posted details of the disability benefits cuts: - PIP will be harder to qualify for - PIP will be frozen not rise with inflation - universal credit rate cut for unfit for work but raised for those looking for work or in work This is so unspeakably cruel
Austerity doesn’t work. After 15 years of Tory cuts, there’s nothing left to cut. This will result in deaths. This must be opposed.
We have two pending applications and only have enough funds to cover one. We’re short about £30, are you able to chip-in at all? #MutualAid #MutualAidRequest opencollective.com/downhamsolidar…
