There’s nothing outdated about prohibiting unqualified people from practicing medicine.
The Texas House passed H.B. 2556, which aims to alleviate the physician shortage by introducing a new medical license that will allow medical school graduates and certain foreign physicians to join the workforce under the guidance of a licensed physician.
We have let nurse practitioners play doctor too long in this country. Their training is woefully lacking to practice medicine independently. Just compare their training to that of a physician (or even dog groomer) #txlege #medtwitter
The core education doesn't prepare NPs for the reality of practice. Especially since NP students don't have any experience going in. It's the preceptor/mentor/collaborating MD that makes the difference in NPs practice. DNP hasn't done anything but address ego.

The educational difference between a Family Nurse Practitioner(70% of NPs today) and Family Medicine physician. Different professions, different education, different licenses. Appears functionally the same but is not the same.
That is practicing medicine w/o a medical license...which has been legalized by legislators. Where else in any country can someone with a master's degree practice medicine(NPs are RN's with master's degrees)? The Wisconsin governor got it. That education matters. And said no.
Something I've seen dozens of times: NP accused of malpractice. Plaintiffs hire a physician expert witness. Lawsuit dismissed because a physician is not qualified to criticize an NP in many jurisdictions (they don't have "similar training").
