This comparison is flawed. Japan’s immigration policies and QC’s debates come from different histories, demographics, and legal frameworks. You can discuss cultural protection without collapsing everything into ethno-nationalism vs open borders. Reality is more nuanced than that.
Japan volontarily closes its doors to immigration and asylum to protect its identity culture way of life. Are you going to treat this multimillenial culture as etho nationalists because they are 100% more than Québécois whom have always welcommed people from around the world?
