hi I'm emme! hostess of podcast Embracing Elephants, stories of change, challenge, and the absurd inbetween! I talk about being trans a lot, too

You can’t out consistent someone’s inconsistency when their inconsistency is their safety mechanism.
Likeable people are often a little unhinged. You can be prosocially goofy and people will love you for it. Only other judgmental fucks will prefer you to be stiff and demure over being a good time
I have an “unattractive” friend who does absurdly well with women just because he loves to dance, his moves aren’t graceful, they’re frantic, jerks, collapses, and spins that border on cardiac arrest. Women love dancing, but more than that, they love a body unashamed of itself
after explaining to a class of 2nd graders that I am indeed a woman despite having a deep voice, this little girl said "they simply don’t understand that you are unique"
This is what I'm trying to STOP
Sometimes you’re drawn to avoidants bc their unavailability matches your own unworthiness wound. You don’t believe you deserve more & pick ppl who confirm it, trying to ‘fix’ them instead of healing. Let them figure out why every relationship follows the same pattern.
It is indeed possible to get a "normal job" as a trans woman, but only if v. lucky AND you're able and willing to a) be better and more efficient and more educated and less paid than everyone else doing the same job, AND routinely humiliated without complaint b) hide it forever.
The perfect loop doesn't exi... 😲
if you don’t like who you are, you can literally just go “what would a person i like do?” and then do those things until you like yourself
A lot of people are playing a character they don't enjoy, and they think they're stuck that way forever because switching characters would be out of character
AFL-CIO calls for General Strike. This hasn't happened in over 80 years.
I feel like this is a not-terrible heuristic for dealing with our own bad habits, too.
I think a good maxim to live by is that if someone you love is making a bad decision and it’ll make them quite unhappy for a year you sometimes just have to let it be. but if they’re doing something that will make them unhappy for 10 years you gotta step in
the overall unemployment rate for trans people is between 40-50% and it’s worse for trans women specifically which is probably why she didn’t appreciate your lecture
If you're mad at me saying trans people can have regular day jobs actually and mostly do, you need to seek help most expeditiously.
even anger holds the shape of the one we loved. - lovandfear
Sometimes both!
the hottest girls you know either practice witchcraft or write poetry
there's a positively valenced form of this which looks like: >project positive traits on the person (competence, goodness, agency) >treat them as if they already embody those traits >allow them to gradually grow into them which is what good parenting, mentorship, etc, look like
don't read unless you want to vomit
The biggest green flag that someone has truly done deep soul work and not just intellectualized their healing is if they are able to sit with you in a painful experience without trying to fix it or give unsolicited advice. When we move to prematurely give advice or offer…
I hope everything I let go grows flowers
autistic canon event: you comprehensively explaining what you want and what causes you pain, thinking the problem is that the person just don’t understand you + abuser who’s taking copious mental notes on which manipulation methods are most likely to work on you
If you only support trans people when they behave the way you want, you don’t support trans people.
i always say we were socialized under a patriarchal society rather than saying male/female socialization is a thing
I kinda do believe gendered socialisation is a thing but 1. it's not a purely binary monolith and 2. it really only takes like a year or two of living as a gender to resocalise
