I think a ton of people are getting caught up on the unit costs and engineering that makes these viable and are missing the core reason why everyone's band wagoning here. Deploying energy intensive hardware en masse in a heavily regulated environment is too slow.

Sadly I forgot to retweet this piece of Danish cultural history on the 10 year anniversary. I hope the world can forgive me. #numsehest

If Chrome was ever kept secret from Eric Schmidt then only for a short time. Certainty not until it was "finished"!

Few Sundar haters know he came up with the idea for/built Chrome. He developed it in secrecy (against Eric Schmidt’s will). Once they finished building it, he presented it company wide and basically everyone got on board. Hundreds of billions if not a trillion+ of EV created.

We derestricted crbug.com/382005099 today which might just be my favorite bug of the last few years: bad interaction between WebAudio changing the CPU's handling of floats and V8 not expecting that. See crbug.com/382005099#comm… for a PoC exploit. Also affected other browsers

When your type system is Turing powerful and the strings are exposed to the type checker anything is possible.

I actually think 'whom' has made a bit of a comeback. But let's face it, grammatical case is disappearing from English. Nobody has intuition for it, but they feel they ought to, so they overcorrect with mistakes like: The present is from John and I. I don't know whom broke it.

People are basically abandoning/discarding the word "whom." They use "who" in most contexts where they should use "whom." It's a shame.

Is this how it works? use array-bounds-exceptions

Link ⤵️

What do you find if you just sequence everything you find in wastewater?

Help me out, I’ve got another wastewater virus mystery. This one really blows my mind. 1/

The digital ID panic is reaching a fever pitch of neuroticism. Apparently I'm pretty much dead having lived under such a system for 30 years.

People in the contents claiming is already easy to open a bank account in the UK. It really isn't, not compared with neighbouring countries.

It’s frustrating having to rummage around in a drawer, looking for an old electricity bill just to open a new bank account. Digital ID will make our lives easier.

As AWS continues aggressive load shedding as they limp their systems back into a healthy state, it'd be a good time to read the Metastable Failures in Distributed Systems paper. It's a quick read and I bet you'll find yourself nodding along:

This video is really interesting. I do not remember doing this on stage. In fact, I don’t think I’ve been on stage for the last two years. Moreover, I haven’t worn one of those shirts in several years. So I think the video is an AI generated composite of a video interview I did…
