When you talk to AI, it’s effectively conversing with meat that’s been tricked into thinking

When you talk to AI, you’re effectively conversing with rocks that we’ve tricked into thinking

Hunter-gatherers didn’t consider men expendable. Losing just a few hunters could mean hunger. The concept of men as the specifically expendable sex seems to have been invented by Victorian ship captains

Are men okay? I carefully and rationally explained that nature designated males as the secondary and largely expendable sex, and men keep getting upset. Like, don’t take it so personally, I didn’t invent nature.

When I was very young, I took a girl to a movie and tried to use a coupon, which turned out to be for a different theater chain. But she said I played it off well and kissed me during the movie. The world is not always harsh

Left out of the story: The part where she said she just wanted to be friends. Getting friendzoned is an emotional blow, but a financial windfall.

The biggest predictor of coding ability is Language Aptitude. Not Math. A study posted in Nature found that numeracy accounts for just 2% of skill variance. Meanwhile, the neural behaviors associated with language accounted for 70% of skill variance.

This seems wrong. Innovation does seem to have mostly made life better for people born in the future, but it has often been highly disruptive to the lives of people going through it

Perhaps one of the worst, most selfish arguments I regularly see is that people don't like embryo selection because they don't want to compete against geniuses But geniuses make YOUR LIFE better In fact, they're the only people who do. In the long-run, innovation is everything

Last week I took a 3-day break from social media and now it seems dumber and more superficial than ever

Antediluvian attitudes on proud display What if you have ten autistic traits and so do your parents and children and you don’t consider it a disorder

"My generation is obsessed with treating every trait as a symptom of a disorder: You’re not shy, you’re autistic; you’re not forgetful, you’ve got ADHD," writes Freya India.

This has a pleasant look, but I have absolutely no idea what the costs and consequences would be. And it’s unclear what parks and commerce are available since there’s none in the photo

Everyone apparently agrees we want our cities to look more like this. Everyone agrees it is apparently illegal to build like this in our cities. We ostensibly live in a democracy, so what *exactly* is preventing us from getting the outcome we all apparently want?

Ridiculous

All vulgar errors arise from education. The uneducated are generally right: the badly educated are always wrong.
