This is a breathtaking, devastating loss. Derk was a pioneer of independent media in Russia and was its mainstay and supporter even after the Russian invasion of Ukraine and institution of military censorship in Russia.

A quick update: delighted to be moving to Kazakhstan in October as @Reuters Central Asia correspondent. Sad to be leaving wonderful Georgia, but excited to get to grips with a new adventure. If you're involved with the region at all, I'd love to chat!
