We are moving towards a more rules-based planning system. As part of that shift, the default answer to suitable planning applications within a reasonable walking distance of well-connected stations will be a straightforward “yes”.

Yet more evidence that any given specific NIMBY objection to a project is usually a shell game for generalized opposition to change—it's merely the most compelling sounding argument—and addressing such individual concerns will usually not meaningfully reduce opposition.

Every new report on the consequences of Trump’s dismantling of USAID is more horrifying than the last. One model estimates it's caused 600K deaths — two-thirds of them children. We can’t give Trump a blank check to keep destroying life-saving programs. newyorker.com/culture/the-ne…

You know, simply adding more chairs to the game won't actually seat more people. It's not as simple as that, it's Very Complex. For a start, they need to be affordable chairs, not chairs for INVESTORS!

There’s good evidence that building market rate housing reduces rents across the market (not just at the top end). If affordability requirements make development unviable, then not only will we see less affordable homes (100% of 0 is 0) but less downward pressure on rents.

Incredibly depressing quotes from @shelter and @natfednews in this Guardian piece. We are effectively not building any homes at all in London, affordable, social or otherwise. That's why 97,000 people are homeless! But moral purity is so much more comfortable.

This is evil. Even the most incompetent military on the planet would instantly realize this little girl isn't a combatant. So why was she murdered? Who murdered her? We will never know because this happens day after day after day and the IDF doesn't care about accountability.

Exclusive footage newly obtained by Al Jazeera captures the harrowing moment an Israeli drone-fired missile killed a Palestinian girl carrying water in Jabalia, northern Gaza, in December 2024. Two men are later seen retrieving her body.

Affordable housing requirements are like a gateway drug for left-NIMBYISM. You think you're just having a quick puff on the "we need more units at X% below market rate" pipe, but soon after you're injecting "supply can't solve the housing crisis" directly into your eyeballs.
