In view of the constant refrain on the wonders of democracy - and often a defence of Israel as a democracy, this may be of interest: daily-philosophy.com/cave-democracy/ for have we any idea what we mean by 'democracy' when we praise it so?

Any Idea What We Have in Mind?

Democratic countries congratulate themselves on being democratic and are ever ready to spot, mock and condemn sham democracies.

Do you remember Audrey White? She's the 76-year-old activist from Liverpool who told Keir Starmer to his face that he's a liar and a fraud. Audrey was arrested today under the Terrorism Act for holding a placard alongside her brother and a priest.

During the parliamentary debate on Wednesday 2 July 2025, I said: “We are all Palestine Action”. Yet this was not included in Hansard’s official record. This was censorship. Today, I challenged that omission and corrected the record. We will not be silenced.

Also, I have heard this Israel response when on @BBCWorldatOne and @BBCPM Of course, condemnations of the horrendous Israeli actions should be as much addressed to the US for all the military and financial and diplomatic backing.

@BBCr4today Isn't it appalling - the Israeli representatives nearly always shout and speak over the interviewers, ignore the questions, make wild accusations against the BBC and object to independent reporters entering Gaza. Now, I wonder why...?

And a Merry BLOODY Xmas to all: Israel just killed 50 & is attacking the only hospital left. “Yesterday they didn’t let the Patriarch enter Gaza as they had promised & yesterday children were bombed. This is cruelty. This is not war”, the Pope said. In fact it is genocide.

Before delivering his Christmas greetings to the Roman Curia, Pope Francis condemned Israel for bombing children in Gaza. “Yesterday they didn’t let the Patriarch [of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pizzaballa] enter Gaza as they had promised & yesterday children were bombed. This is…

I call upon the Western media to confirm or deny that the Maccabi football supporters, well before any skirmishes, were marching on the streets on Amsterdam chanting: "There are no schools in Gaza, there are no children left there. F-ck the Arabs." [They did!]

Israel is hellbent on taking N. Gaza. The IDF burns, destroys, and razes every building after pushing out the Palestinians it does not kill or bury inside the rubble. No war crime like it has occurred anywhere since WW2. And the US-EU look on... theguardian.com/world/2024/nov…

This woman is a complete hero, as courageous as she is persistent and persuasive. In years to come, when a free Palestinian state sits alongside Israel and Netanyahu sits in a cell in the Hague, she will no doubt be awarded the Nobel Prize she so deserves.

If you hear any words today. Let them Be this. @FranceskAlbs speaking truth to power. As the United Nations Special Rapporteur, here she is passionately condemning the global community's silence and lack of empathy for the Palestinian people. United we stand 🕊️

By this same perverted logic, Britain could have defeated 'terrorism' in Northern Ireland by turning much of it into a smoking wasteland, by bombing civilians, shooting children in the head, killing journos & aid workers. Lord Snooty is utterly deluded. telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/10/1…

Remember US/UK over the year are still supporting such horrors both militarily and politically. And let's not hide behind the mantra Israel's 'right to defend itself' - whatever that right is, it does not mean doing such horrors on innocent individuals bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
