A lot of good tips here. But for another perspective, I read far, far less than this every year. I do read to remember. So, I read slowly and deeply. I try to have several going at time: spirituality, theology, fiction, and audio for chores/exercise.

Too bad for the fathers. Scripture stands against this. "Then they crucified him." (Mt. 27:35) "And they crucified him." (Mk. 15:25) "There they cruified him." (Lk. 23:33) "Golgotha...where they crucified him." (Jn. 19:18) All four, almost ostentatious omission of gory details.
